Proper Usage Techniques for Ferrous Sulfate

Ferrous sulfate is a commonly used industrial raw material, commonly known as “alum”, which is harmless. The appearance of the product is light green or yellow-green crystalline solid, which can be used for water purification and industrial wastewater treatment. Mainly used as flocculant: it has strong decoloring ability, can remove oil stains and metal ions, and has a good killing effect on impurities. It has obvious effect on decoloration and CDO removal of printing and dyeing wastewater from electroplating wastewater. Industry: ferrous sulfate is used to make iron salts, bleaches, tanning agents, wood preservatives and detergents.

In agriculture, ferrous sulfate can be used as waste, as a catalyst for plant to produce chlorophyll, which plays an important role in plant absorption. Ferrous sulfate can also be used to treat iron deficiency anemia, adjust the change of soil pH value and supplement iron for plants. Many ferrous sulfates are used as redox agents, mainly for reducing chromium and iron salts in cement. Putting ferrous sulfate in food bags can play an antioxidant role. Ferrous sulfate can react with oxidizing substances in the air, and it can also absorb some water to dry and keep fresh.

When ferrous sulfate is added to the agreed amount, the PH value of alkaline water can be adjusted and organically combined with suspended solids in water to accelerate precipitation. Soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol, deliquescent, and gradually oxidized to yellowish brown in air. Usually, ferrous sulfate is used together with copper sulfate in aquatic products, and the mixture of copper sulfate and ferrous sulfate is a common drug for preventing and treating aquatic animal diseases. When ferrous sulfate is used as flocculant, its flocculation effect, water quality and hydraulic conditions during coagulation are affected.

The factors that affect the coagulation effect include water quality, PH value and water temperature, which are also the main factors that affect the coagulation of ferrous sulfate. The hydrolysis reaction of ferrous sulfate is endothermic, and low water temperature is not conducive to the hydrolysis of coagulant. When the water temperature is low, the viscosity of water is high, which leads to the weakening of Brownian motion of water molecules, which is not conducive to the aggregation of colloidal particles of pollutants in water, so it is not easy to form flocs. After adding a certain amount of ferrous sulfate to the wastewater, the coagulant must be quickly and evenly diffused into the water.
