Desiccant & Drying Agent

A desiccant, also known as a drying agent, is a substance or material used to absorb and remove moisture from the surrounding environment. Desiccants are commonly employed to control humidity levels and prevent moisture-related damage in various applications. They work by adsorbing (not absorbing) water vapor from the air, effectively drying the surrounding atmosphere and maintaining dry conditions.

The term “adsorption” refers to the process of molecules adhering to the surface of a solid or liquid, forming a thin film. In the case of desiccants, water molecules in the air adhere to the surface of the desiccant material, where they are held by various forces, such as van der Waals forces or hydrogen bonding.
